We are taking an exciting step out of the classroom and into the outdoors for our learning across the curriculum. We have begun to undertake development of our outdoor spaces to encourage and inspire the children through lessons and in play.

Outdoor learning has many benefits within an enriched curriculum and research shows increased pupil engagement, improved achievement and evidence that it can progress attainment in Literacy and Numeracy.

‘Young people of all ages benefit from real life ‘hands on’ experiences; when they can see, hear, touch and explore the world around them and have opportunities to experience challenge and adventure.’ Council for Learning Outside the Classroom.

Outdoor Learning at St John's

Many children may have already come home with muddy shoes and stories of learning outside. Keep up to date with the children's outdoor learning, school ground developments and eco-warrior challenges by using the links below!

What is Outdoor Learning?

The 'Institute for Outdoor Learning' provides some great research to show the impacts of outdoor learning and the thinking behind the concept.

Find links on this website for you to take your family time outside - even in the winter months!

WELLY AMNESTY!  Friends of the school are going to be kindly supporting us by providing welly storage but if you have any old and unwanted wellies still in good condition, please donate to school!

Our aim is to provide children with a pair of outdoor shoes or wellies that they can have access to throughout the week, that way the children can be outside whatever the weather!
