Find out about our Year 6 Journey 2016-17

Look at what we've been up to...

  Autumn Term..

Literacy

We are studying Science-Fiction Writing and focusing on 'The War of the Worlds'.

BEWARE - AN ALIEN CRASH SITE HAS APPEARED IN OUR NATURE AREA!

We are writing to the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to inform them of this crash site and preparing news broadcasts to raise awareness of the event.

Numeracy

We are starting our Numeracy work by concentrating on our calculation skills and ability to use formal arithmetic methods.

  • We've tackled formal addition and subtraction.
  • Short multiplication with decimals has been a success.
  • Long multiplication challenged us.
  • Short division with decimals has been great.
  • Long division has proved a trickier method to grasp but we've cracked it!

For further help on the methods, please see our Maths Workshop activity or Term 1 Pop In for support.

Now we're moving on to understanding number.

  • Prime numbers.
  • Square numbers.
  • Cubed numbers.
  • BoDMAS and the order of operation.

Science

Our first Science theme is 'electricity' and we're looking forward to testing out circuits and creating our own loop wire games.

Art and DT

Linking with out Literacy focus, we are going to be using our sewing skills to create our very own soft toy aliens!

Class KL Sewing Skills:

We practised running stitch, back stitch, cross stitch and over stitch so we would know which were the most secure, most attractive or more appropriate for our soft to alien designs.

Class KL Alien Designs
