Welcome to Term 6

Our Topic this term is 'Adventurers'

In Literacy the children will be learning how to write recounts.  They will also be exploring poetry and rhyme and writing their own seaside poetry too.

In Maths we will be covering multiplication and division, fractions, problem solving and shape.

In History and Geography the children will be finding out about the voyage of Christopher Columbus and plotting his route on a world map, using their knowledge of continents and oceans. They will make links with maths to use their positional language to create their own treasure maps and write directions for them.  Later in the term they be learning about Space and Neil Armstrong's moon landing.

In Science, there will be lots of opportunity for the children to develop their investigative skills, including exploring floating and sinking, water discplacement and magnetism.  Theywill learn

In Art and DT the children will be designing and making a healthy fruit drink. Making links with history, the children will find out about the evolution of boats and then design and build their own rafts.

In R.E. will be reading stories from the Old Testament of the Bible and thinking about their message.

Art Week

Year One enjoyed a variety of art related activities this week.

On Monday Gill Cosford worked with us to create a special sign for our school using fimo clay.

  

We did some sketching of poppies....

  

We looked at the work of Henri Matisse and made some 'cut out' pictures of our own.

Year One's Trip to Belton House

Today the Year One children have had a fun filled day of activities at Belton House. They enjoyed exploring artefacts from the past and touring the house to learn about life in the past.

 

 

Phonics Screening Check for Year One

Year One Performance of the Princess and the Pea
